ITALY’S 1ST CLOSED-CYCLE GEOTHERMAL PROJECT AT MID-ENTHALPY
Pangea as the disruptive project in the Italian energy transition.
Pangea is FRI-EL GEO’s ambitious project aimed at reducing CO2 emissions, decreasing fossil fuel dependence, and lowering energy costs for citizens and companies alike: this is our challenge!
FRI-EL GEO will be the first mover in closed-cycle (binary-cycle) and mid-enthalpy geothermal technology in Italy, Pangea brings a huge advantage from economies of scale, with over 100 exploration opportunities throughout Italy, 15 of which will be operational in the next few years.
Pangea significantly decreases the ecological footprint for a more sustainable future:
- Minus 17.3 megatonnes CO2 in northern Italy
- 15% reduction of national gas
- Potential capacity of 20 gigawatts (needs of 2.8 million households per day)
'We need to focus on renewables. Italy is one of the best countries in the world for geothermal energy, neglecting it is a shame'
Prof. Giorgio Parisi, Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Sapienza University of Rome, Vice-President of the Accademia dei Lincei, Nobel Prize winner for Physics
GREEN AND RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE FOR EXCELLENCE!
The natural heat of planet Earth
The geothermal resource is a ‘renewable‘ form of energy because the source is inexhaustible on the scale of human time. Using earth’s heat consists of fulfilling the needs of current generations without compromising the needs of future generations, while ensuring a balance between economic growth, environmental care, and social well-being. For this reason, the geothermal power is defined as ‘sustainable’.

A company at the forefront
in sustainable energy
The FRI-EL group is one of Italy’s leading producers of electricity from renewable sources (wind, biomass and biogas). The company supports local economies and communities by investing in sustainable energy projects that benefit thousands of Italian families and create jobs in the areas where they operate.
Through FRI-EL GEO, the group invested in the construction of geothermal power plants to address the increasing demand for renewable energy and to render Italy independent from other countries.
